I know I am not standing up, it was the first time Nancy had ventured out with me; we have mastered it now. 

One of my best places to paddle has to be Ruswarp on the idyllic river Esk. 

We parked on the road side near Ruswarp Pleasure Boats and entered the water just past the boat launch. (They charge £5 to launch here)  but it is ideal if other family members want to hire a canoe or rowing boat and join you on the river.https://ruswarppleasureboats.co.uk/

We paddled down stream to Sleights. Its just so relaxing and the river banks are so beautiful, you see everything in a different perspective.

Half a hours paddle at a very gentle pace you reach Perry`s garden centre and coffee shop, which backs on to the river.  The half way stop for refreshments but you do have to lift your board out up onto the river bank.  But it is worth it for the food is rather good and the gardens are lovely to sit and relax in. http://www.perrysplants.co.uk/
